DJCS is a curator from Ngāmotu, Aotearoa, working within the contexts of institutional critique, queer theory, and settler colonial studies. Their practice examines curation as a discursive framework for interrogating power structures within contemporary art institutions and their historical formations. With particular focus on conceptual art strategies and counter-historical methodologies, DJCS employs exhibition-making as a mode of critical inquiry into the politics of representation, archival absence, and spatial hegemony.
Currently serving as Director of Enjoy Contemporary Art Space (2022–present), DJCS brings over a decade of professional experience across public galleries, commercial spaces, and artist-run initiatives. Their independent curatorial projects demonstrate a sustained engagement with collaborative knowledge production, speculative historiography, and the redistribution of institutional power.
DJCS is currently based in Te Whanganui-ā-Tara, and acknowledges Te Āti Awa, Taranaki Whānui, and Ngāti Toa as mana whenua.
